Our Story
Two sisters, a grandmother’s legacy, and a season of grief that led us back to making with our hands.
How it began
Sister & Sewn began in 2024, in the season after we lost our grandmother. She had built a beautiful home and a restaurant business with almost nothing, and she believed that the spaces we make for people matter.
Cassidy signed up for a sewing class at Urban Spools in Dallas. Too impatient to wait, she bought a machine and taught herself after the kids were asleep. She called her sister Tara in Washington, D.C., and Tara bought a machine that same week. We learned together across a thousand miles, trading photos, mistakes, ideas and small victories over text.
Out of grief, two new machines and a shared instinct to make something lasting, Sister & Sewn was born.
What we saw
As our practice grew, so did our curiosity. We kept finding exceptional textiles, inherited materials and independent artists’ work that had become separated from the people and stories that gave them meaning. Makers with extraordinary work, and a design community eager to discover it, were not always finding one another.
Sister & Sewn became our way to close that gap: to champion artists, keep the story close to the work, and give both new collections and storied materials a considered path forward.

Tara Blythe · Washington, D.C.
Tara’s background in biomedical sales, strategy and relationship-building brings a thoughtful operational lens to the business. Together, we balance creativity and structure, intuition and execution.

Where we are now
What began at a sewing table has grown into a house that brings exceptional artists, storied materials and thoughtful U.S. production to the American design trade, with the story always kept close to the work.
