Our Story

Our Story

How Sister & Sewn began.

A question from a five-year-old. A grandmother's legacy. Two sisters, a thousand miles apart, learning to sew after the kids were asleep.

How it began

A question that landed somewhere deep.

Sister & Sewn was born from a question a five-year-old asked one afternoon in 2024. Cassidy's daughter wanted a few things made. Could her mom sew? She couldn't — not yet. But that question landed somewhere deep, arriving in the same season as the loss of their grandmother, a woman who had built a beautiful home and a restaurant business with almost nothing, and who believed that the spaces you live in should feel meaningful and cared for.

Cassidy signed up for a class at Urban Spools in Dallas. Then, too impatient to wait, she bought a machine and taught herself from videos after the kids were asleep. She called her sister Tara in Washington, D.C. Tara bought a machine the same week. They learned together across a thousand miles — trading photos, mistakes, and small victories over text.

None of this came from nowhere. Cassidy and Tara grew up with parents in the restaurant industry. They understood early that the spaces you create for people matter — that a room can make someone feel at home before a single word is spoken. That belief carried forward. It lives in everything Sister & Sewn makes.

"A few months later, Sister & Sewn Collective was born."

Two sisters, two worlds

Different paths.
Deeply shared values.

Sister & Sewn is shaped by two different paths and a set of deeply shared values. Though we live in different cities, we work closely — sharing ideas, decisions, and a belief that the best things are made thoughtfully.

Cassidy Liland · Fort Worth, Texas
Cassidy Liland — Sister & Sewn

Maker. Mother.
Clinical Psychologist.

Cassidy's work as a clinical psychologist centers on grief, loss, presence, and what helps people feel grounded. That background runs through everything we make — favoring calm over chaos, meaning over trends, and beauty that is meant to be lived with and enjoyed every day.

Tara Blythe · Washington, D.C.
Tara Blythe — Sister & Sewn

Builder. Sister.
Strategist.

Tara's background in biomedical sales, strategy, and relationship-building brings a thoughtful operational lens to the business. Together, we balance creativity and structure, intuition and execution.

"We are intentionally going back to basics — slowing down and honoring the craft of handmade."

Each pillow is sewn in small batches, with care given to construction, proportion, and detail. We value quality over speed, intention over mass production, and making things well rather than making more. Our pieces are designed for real life — kids, pets, gatherings, quiet moments, and everything in between. Nothing we make is meant to feel too precious to use.

The fabric

Textiles chosen with intention.

At the heart of Sister & Sewn is our curated selection of to-the-trade designer fabric remnants — textiles from houses like Pierre Frey, Thibaut, Penny Morrison, and Martyn Lawrence Bullard, sourced in limited quantities and reimagined into one-of-a-kind pillows made to order.

Working with remnants allows us to honor craftsmanship, reduce waste, and create pieces that feel collected and intentional. Because of this process, quantities are always limited and no two runs are ever exactly the same.

"Storied textiles. Sewn for the present. Designed for the future."

Giving back

Woven into what we do.

Giving back is woven into what we do. We support Genesis Women's Shelter and similar organizations — causes close to our hearts as sisters, mothers, and women. Through special collections and ongoing contributions, a portion of what we make goes toward creating safety and stability for women and families who need it.

As Sister & Sewn grows, so does our commitment to this.

A living story

More than pillows.

Sister & Sewn is about more than pillows. It is about creating spaces that feel lived-in, meaningful, and reflective of the people who call them home — honoring the past while making something relevant for today.

Our hope is that each piece brings warmth, ease, and a sense of story into your home. Something beautiful, well-made, and meant to be enjoyed every day.
